What political party does my character belong to?
Q. I've created some characters and most of them I can define everything about. Most of them fall into existing political parties however I'm not sure where my newest one falls. His views are as follows. He believes in absolute freedom. He doesn't like oppression and thinks everyone should be equal and that the government is mostly unnecessary. However he still wants a government to make laws as while he does want complete freedom he still feels some laws like don't kill are needed so that a society can have prisons and the criminals can learn that they've done wrong. So what party does he seem to match with?

A. Parties play a key role in engaging and mobilizing the electorate in the political process. There are three main reasons a person becomes active in politics: First, they get something in return a financial, social or purposive benefit. Second, they have the ability and resources to participate. Finally, they are asked to participate. This can apply to just voting for president every four years or becoming politically active to a much greater extent. Political parties can help educate a person on why they should care about an election by offering a social benefit and making the financial and purposive benefits clear. Parties can assist those who don t otherwise have the money, time or skills to participate. One example would be offering… [cont.]

What is a good political issue to use for my assignment?
Q. For my political science class I have to write a one-page e-mail to an elected official (it can be anyone in the U.S as long as they are currently elected) about any political issue. It can be opposing their views or agreeing with them... the topic is very open. My problem is that I am not very politically aware and have no idea what political issue I should talk about, or even to who. Any suggestions? Please help!

A. Health care reform is a real political hot button right now. I'm sure that you could easily write a 1-page email on this topic. You could send it straight to the president or Hilary Clinton (she is a huge advocate of universal health care in the US). If you are looking for ideas, scan through the political section of Y/A. You will find many of the hot topics in the news on here as well. Just take everything that you read with a grain of salt. You will need to do the research yourself, but this is a good starting point to see what some issues that you could potentially discuss are. Good luck :)

Q. What political, economic, and social reforms were achieved by Republican governments in the south between 1866 and 1877?
Asked by Phils Man - Fri Feb 18 09:19:37 2011 - History - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Several southern states prevented home owners from losing their homesteads because the owners had gone bankrupt. They still had to pay their taxes and the mortgage on the property. If they did those things they could keep their houses upon bankruptcies. These state constitutional amendments were a reaction to out-of-staters who would use the then current state laws to obtain the properties of distressed southerners.

A. You need to check the universities which offer courses in the countries that you are interested in; some universities have very good departments which focus on, for example, China, Germany or Russia / USSR. Then you should check the prospectuses of these universities to see if you can focus your studies on one country, or on a groups of similar countries. The best way to narrow your search is to check out the authors of books & articles that you like, to see where they teach. You should also check out the acknowledgement pages, as they also hold clues as to where your field of interest is studied. Once you have narrowed down your search to a handful of universities then you should contact them to ask detailed questions about the… [cont.]

Politics (from Greek πολιτικος, [politikós]: «citizen», «civilian»), is a process by which groups of people make collective decisions. The term is generally applied to the art or science of running governmental or state affairs. It also refers to behavior within civil governments, but politics has been observed in other group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions.
